Low visual aid services
A community Low Visual Aid (LVA) scheme has been in operation in north Nottinghamshire since 1999. The areas covered are Mansfield, Ashfield, Bassetlaw and Newark & Sherwood. The scheme, which operates out of certain community optometry practices, is independent of, yet complements the hospital LVA provision.
Patients are assessed in the community and where appropriate are provided with simple magnifiers free of charge. Links have been established with Social Services Visual Impairment Teams to provide non-optical assessment of need as required.
