New roles for Nottinghamshire’s PCT Chairmen
Friday, 24 June 2011 08:44
NHS Nottingham City's Chair, Ron Buchanan will be taking on a joint Chair role across the City and County PCTs as part of the national drive to encourage joint working.
The executive teams across both organisations have already been working together since April 2011. The two organisations will continue to perform the required separate statutory duties but the aim is to save on resources and prevent duplication, whilst providing clear and direct leadership.
Previous to NHS Nottingham City, Ron spent 30 years undertaking a range of corporate banking roles with the Bank of Scotland. His senior posts included six years as East Midlands Regional Manager, based in Nottingham, and four years as Managing Director of Corporate Banking in London. Ron was appointed as Chairman of NHS Nottingham City in October 2006, after a spell as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Nottingham City Hospital. He is also a member of Nottinghams Childrens Partnership Board and sits on the Board of One Nottingham.
The news follows the announcement that current Acting Chair of NHS Nottinghamshire County, Jon Towler is leaving the organisation to become Interim Chair of East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS). The current EMAS Chair, Chris Faircliffe will retire at the end of the month, after joining the Trust in 2003.
Ron said: "This is a prime opportunity to see mutual benefit for both organisations, at a time when there is great change within the NHS. I am looking forward to moving forward and wish Jon all the very best for the future."
Jon said: "EMAS is embarking on an exciting journey to achieve Foundation Trust status and I am delighted to be able to take up the opportunity of driving that process forward. I have thoroughly enjoyed my role at NHS Nottinghamshire County and wish my colleagues well as they continue the transition to clinical commissioning."
Jon will begin his new role on 1 July, 2011. Jon was a non-executive director of the PCT from January 2009 and took on the role of Acting Chair from October 2010. A successful businessman, Jon has provided clear guidance and focus to the organisation, achieving financial balance and a £37.1million financial recovery programme in 2010/11.
Andrew Kenworthy has been joint CEO of both organisations since September 2010 and will remain.
All non executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Ron Buchanan has not declared any political activity and holds no other ministerial appointments.
Ron Buchanan's term of office runs from 01 July 2011 to 31 March 2013. This is in addition to Mr Buchanan's existing term of appointment as Chair of NHS Nottingham City until 30 September 2014. These posts together are remunerated at £42,033 per annum.
This appointment has been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice.
