Nottinghamshire families are being encouraged to learn how to take up healthier and more active lifestyles at a free outdoor festival.
Rush4Health, a celebration of the nationwide Change4Life campaign, will take place on Sunday 3 July from 12pm until 5pm at Rushcliffe Country Park in Ruddington.
The festival aims to help people kick start positive health changes with support and inspiration from friendly experts. In the Eat Well zone home-economist Teresa Bovey will be cooking up tasty recipe ideas and mixologists will be serving up tasty non-alcoholic versions of popular summer cocktails.
In the Move More zone there will be free zumba, salsa and street dance fitness classes plus lots of fun activities to keep the children amused including crazy golf, trampolines, fun bikes, soft play equipment and kite flying.
In the Live Longer zone, local GPs from Principia will be offering a street doctor service in a mobile clinic, supported by a team of health experts in stop smoking services, cancer support, sun safety education and falls prevention. Festival goers will also be able to join in with 'Play Your NHS Right' - an interactive game that reveals the cost to the taxpayer of a number of different NHS procedures.
Rush4Health is organised by Rushcliffe Borough Council and Principia, a social enterprise which brings together all the family doctors and community health services in Rushcliffe and forms part of NHS Nottinghamshire County.
Dr Jeremy Griffiths, Principia's Clinical Lead said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for people to find out more about staying healthy and improving their well-being, in a fun and relaxed environment. It's important that the local NHS works with the local community to ensure that the money available to support the delivery of health care services is spent wisely.
"We all have a responsibility to focus on how we prevent illnesses caused through smoking and obesity. This will then enable funds to be directed to support improving health and well being, and those who are frail and vulnerable. We hope to see you there!"
